NZ Run

Lisa Tamati - Ultramarathon runner, NZ Maori sportswoman of the year 2008, the first NZ woman and fastest New Zealander to conquer the infamous Badwater ultramarathon through Death valley in the USA - Twice as well as thousands of kilometres in other desert races from Morocco to Jordan, Niger, Egypt, Lybian deserts etc, Author of her own Autobiography "Running Hot" (contact us over the website to order your personally signed copy) has now completed her biggest, and longest challenge yet.

On 31st of October Lisa began her long journey to run the length of New Zealand from Bluff to Cape Reinga covering approx 2,200km in 43 days. It was a journey of extremes that saw her pushed to her physical and emotional limits, she set out, not only to run but to visit around 50 schools and to do other speaking engagements enroute to encourage kids and adults alike to get outside and get active. But Lisa's first aim was to raise money for two extremely worthwhile causes CanTeen and Curekids. And this cause helped Lisa to overcome the injuries, sickness and pain she experienced on this difficult mission.

She also wanted to show everyone that we are often capable of far more than we give ourselves credit for if we just face our fears and do it anyway, as the book says. Lisa is adamant that she is a very average person and doesnt have any special abilities other than the desire and will to do what she sets out to. The mind the key to magnificent undertakings and achievements.

Literally hundreds of people came out enroute and joined Lisa for a k or two or more and told her their stories. Kids in many primary schools got involved in the "K a day", 14 day challenge" that Lisa and her team of supporters promoted in primary schools.

he aim was for kids to learn about the importance of exercise and sport and to everyones surprise and delight we even had a couple of rest homes involved in the challenge, with residents as old as 99 years old setting themselves there own challenges and going for it.

Lisa has shown us all that the sky is the limit and that no matter if there are faster and better people out there, you too can do amazing things, Lisas life is not about being the best but about challenging yourself and living your dreams, leaving no stone unturned and no dream unfufilled . Lets join her -and heres how you can still be involved.

Join in the "K a day challenge" - set yourselves a goal any goal whether it be biking, walking, running, rolling, jumping, kayaking, canoeing, kite surfing, whatever you are into. Set a target in km's, or time ie I am going to run a 5 km run everyday for 14 days, or I am going to swim nonstop for 3km or I am going to walk a km everyday. It doesnt matter as long as it requires you to get out and active. The next step is to download the "K a day challenge sponsorship form from the nz run website www.nzrun.co.nz then go out and get yourselves sponsored from family and friends to complete your challenge, when you have reached your goal and collected the money you can donate it by dropping it into any branch of the BNZ - just mention the NZ run - lisa Tamati run for Curekids and CanTeen or online, its easy its a great way to start the new year and you will be doing good for the kids and teens facing cancer and other childhood diseases and getting fit at the same time. .... so what are you waiting for .... Lisa has done her challenge now its YOUR TURN.
