Lisa recently returned from the Himalayas where she ran the 222km long La Ultra - The high race. This incredible race saw only 6 of some the worlds most experienced ultra runners try to tackle this huge undertaking. Prior to this year only one man Mark Cockbain from england had completed this event in which runners have to run over the two highest passes in the world up to 5400m, with temperatures ranging from -6°degrees celcius to plus 40°c, through snow storms, sand storms and heat waves and dealing with the convoys of army and transit trucks that spew out diesel on this one and only highway in the Kashmir region.
It was tough and the athletes were all very nervous before the race, having been warned by the local mountain guides and the Indian army (who train altitude up there ) that this undertaking was crazy and extremely dangerous due to altitude sickness. Lisa also had to battle with asthma and had attacks high up on the passes.
But with the support of her amazing crew, Chris Ord from Australia, Josh Paurini from City fitness gym in New Plymouth, Venkat Krishnan from India, Sunny Grewal from India Today in New Plymouth, Luke Mcnee (camerman from Nalu productions) Australia, and Rana Singh from India. "Without my totally dedicated crew I never would have made it over the second pass in the snow storm and facing asthma attacks and panic attacks are over 40 hours on the run, I was toast. But these guys just stuck by me and kept me going, incredible "
Lisa finished 4th overall, second woman home in 53 hr 05 min.
Now off to more adventures soon.
Next up The great ocean run in Victoria Australia, on 15 October.
