- New Zealand ultra runner Lisa Tamati is embarking on yet another endurance challenge to add to her already impressive CV of extreme achievements, this time an epic 125km adventure run through Australia’s scorching Red Centre, battling temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius.Tamati will film her attempt for a pilot television series dubbed Run The Planet, in which she joins forces with an Australian, Chris Ord, who is, he says “decidedly not an ultra runner.” Tamati and Ord will travel the globe, searching for legends of extreme endurance undertaken on foot. They will then attempt to recreate each run, attempting distances of between 80km and 350km while asking the question: were humans really born to run?

Ultra Running

Lisa has been competing internationally in ultramarathon events fort he past 13 years and has completed over 120 ultramarathons and more than 65,000km in training and races ort he equivalent of around 2½ times around the earths circumference. She has competed in some of the most extreme climates in the world and is keen for a lot more.

Ultra running is described as any distance over the marathon of 42,2km and typically races range between 50km up to 5000km or more. Some races are non stop others are stage races.
